The unique city of Český Krumlov
I’ve saved a gem called Český Krumlov for a special occasion. Well, such a day has come at last: sunny, carefree, and leisurely.
How to get there
You can get to Český Krumlov from Prague by direct bus or by train with a bus transfer in České Budějovice.
The bus station is located on the roof of the shopping center near the railway station. There are boards with the bus schedule to Český Krumlov. Depending on the time of day, buses depart each 30 minutes or an hour. Tickets are sold online at here and here.
The trip from Prague takes 3 hours. This is the second most visited city in the Czech Republic after Prague, so you have to expect large crowds of people. The city has a population of only 14,000, but it is visited by almost 500,000 tourists a year.
The city
You can walk around the whole city in 2 hours. Yet, given that every building there is an architectural masterpiece, you can spend the whole day staring in admiration at one after the other.
Not only is the city well known for its enchanting architecture, but also for the possibility of rafting on kayaks. This enjoyable experience is inexpensive, about 400 CZK for the whole day for an 8-people boat.
Despite its small size, the city offers quality shopping, including Czech ceramics, crystal, and even luxury international clothing boutiques.
Prices in the city are higher than in Prague. Restaurants, ice cream, doughnuts… everything is expensive, though the choice is quite limited. Moreover, the level of restaurants is not very high for the high prices.
That aside, the city is so beautiful, that often I myself couldn’t believe my own eyes.
I have visited a fairy-tale city. I couldn’t even imagine that a country that had won such a place in my heart could offer something so new and exciting!
A part of the city is on a mountain, from where a magical view of the river and the city opens up.
My photos will tell you everything else. A must-see city!
